Joy of Yoga Retreat in New Harmony

Nourish the heart and feed the soul, come home to self. Join Joy of Yoga for 2 nights & 3 days in New Harmony, Indiana- just a little over a 2 hour drive from STL. We will enjoy yoga, meditation, pranayama, self-exploration, nature and gourmet food.

New Harmony is a 200-year old community located on the banks of the Wabash River. It began as a spiritual sanctuary and evolved into a haven for international educators, scholars, and scientists who sought equality in communal living. This serene environment is a true treasure not to be missed. The trip is perfect for those who want to connect & replenish in community amongst the healing beauty of nature.

About

This retreat is your opportunity to remove distraction and  give you the opportunity to connect, nourish and rejuvenate. The weekend will include an ecstatic dance bonfire + Cacao ceremony, vegetarian meals, yoga classes, meditation sessions, moonlit walks, labyrinth walks, lakeside lounging, river hikes and time to explore the most charming small town!

 

All of New Harmony can be explored by foot. For fun, there are also golf carts that you can rent to get around. New Harmony is the perfect place to explore on bike. There are a few bikes at the hotel that you can use, or bringing your own is a great option too.

 

Accommodations

This retreat is held at the New Harmony Inn in historic New Harmony, IN. All participants will be given their own room with a full or queen size bed and a private bath. Many of the rooms have fireplaces and outdoor areas.

Meals

Good nutrition is key to finding harmony within. Therefore, for this retreat, we provide a flavorful and nourishing vegetarian menu for all participants to enjoy. All meals have gluten and dairy free options. When possible, additional dietary needs are accommodated to ensure an enjoyable culinary experience throughout the event.

Joy Page

Joy started practicing Hatha Yoga in Portland, OR in 1994 while in college. She immediately realized the significance her yoga practice brought to her mind and body, her heart and her life. It wasn't until she became a teacher that she realized THIS was her calling, her dharma, to share the profound benefits of the practice with others. Joy's classes weave intention with pranayama, precision in alignment with quiet mindfulness and subtle body awareness with refinement. Glenna Bedoya

Practicing yoga since 1994, Glenna offers Hatha yoga, massage ball therapy, and Reiki healing. In 2003 she completed her first Teacher Training with Ana Forrest; in 2011 she completed her Anusara Yoga Teacher Training. Since then, in mentorship with Elena Brower, Glenna has assisted her advanced Teacher Training as well as her Elevate Mentorship Program. In 2014 she began her exploration into yoga massage ball therapy with Jill Miller. Glenna has also been attuned as a Reiki master. Informed by the philosophy, art, and science of yoga as well as the precision of anatomy, private work with Glenna may include Reiki, yoga, breathing, meditation, and/or massage ball therapy. All sessions may be enhanced with Essential Oils upon request. Teaching since 2011, her group classes are an empowering flow yoga that focus on alignment and breath to support a powerful, grounded practice.

Matt

A life-long martial arts practitioner, Matthew came to yoga in 2016 and knew after those first few practices that he had found something special. He immediately began incorporating asanas into the classes that he taught but over time began to feel the deeper pull of the practice moving into his everyday life. He knew that teaching yoga was something he had to do, and will graduate from Just Practice Yoga's 200 Hour program in September 2019. He loves teaching slower paced classes where you can really feel the poses as you move through them, threading mind, breath and movement together in order to cultivate a greater awareness of the present moment both on and off the mat.

Shawn-Tucker

Master Teacher Hun Yuan Taiji, PT, Owner, Brentwood Center of Health Shawn Tucker has been teaching Therapeutic Tai Chi for Health since 2007. In 2012 he competed in the 3rd international Hun Yuan Taiji competition in Bejing where he was awarded a gold medal in Advanced 24 Form. In 2018 he was awarded Master Teacher status in Hun Yuan Taiji by St Louis Internal Arts. Shawn has written numerous articles and participated in clinical research to better understand the medical and health benefits of Traditional Asian Mind/Body practices. As a holistic, integrative healthcare provider, Shawn incorporates Taoist healing arts into his private practice at Brentwood Center of Health (bcoh.org).

Kylie

Kylie has been meditating for over 5 years and has experience in a variety of meditation styles. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a minor in Psychology and worked as a Registered Nurse before becoming a Reiki Master. She now enjoys assisting others on their healing journey by way of energy healing and guided meditation. Alicia Delaney

Alicia Delaney (RYT 200) serves all people seeking rest and rejuvenation. Her class atmosphere matches her spirit: open, affirming, and easy-going. With a passion for Restorative yoga, she guides students into slow and gentle self-care, emphasizing a sensitive, open-choice approach to all offerings. Alicia came to yoga in 2015 as a source of reprieve from her academic and caretaking roles. Consistent practice as a Yoga Buzz scholarship recipient awakened a hunger to invest more deeply in her physical, spiritual, and mental health. Doing so provided her with a newfound sense of resiliency, power, awareness, and freedom. Knowing that yoga can offer that type of transformation to all practitioners is what led her to pursue yoga teacher certification. She is wholeheartedly grateful to Joy Page and Jill Dunlap, who guided her through their 2017 200-hour Hatha Yoga teacher training. She has since continued her education with a deeper focus on rest and healing: Alicia received her 30-hour Yoga Nidra Teacher certification through the ShivaShakti School of Yoga and Healing Arts in 2018, and is a traditional Usui Reiki practitioner. Alicia’s mission is to guide students toward ease and delight in their bodies through clear, safe, and patient instruction. She desires to always stay curious, to support others in the embodiment of yoga as a natural state of being, and to hold space for natural self-healing to occur. Sheila Pride

Sheila Pride is a licensed clinical social worker and practices as a holistic therapist in the St. Louis area. She holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work and integrates Eastern and Western practices into her private practice. She is also a Bhakti yoga teacher, cranial sacral therapist and licensed massage therapist. Sheila is passionate in teaching others self care practices and helping individuals restore their health, maintain balance and connect with their own internal power and wisdom. Her yoga classes emphasize reclaiming ones power, opening the heart and healing the body/mind through ancient practices, loving kindness and meaningful connections.

Kasey Carroll

Kasey is a 200 hour Yoga Alliance certified instructor who was drawn to the grace and quiet strength of yoga after years of cheer, dance and gymnastics. Her love of yoga started as a love for the asana and the physical challenge of the poses. Then, after a very traumatic time in her life when she was reduced to ashes, she remembered how good it had felt to just sit in self-reflection and simply wanted to feel good again. So she got on YouTube and typed in the words "feel good mediation". Some yoga videos popped up and so began the start of her TRUE yoga journey. Yoga gave her the strength to rise out of the ashes as a phoenix. Kasey says that yoga brought her through the darkest moments in her life. It brought her back to her breath when she didn't feel like she could breathe at all. It helped her get healthy again - mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. It brought her back to her true self. She still loves a good Power or Hot Vinyasa class, but yoga is so much more than a workout to her now. It is a way of life. The asana alone is not the practice. Breath with movement as a tool to still the mind is the way within. That is the practice. Kasey is a nature enthusiast and poet and loves tying the aspects of her writing and creativity into her practices. When she's not writing poetry or creating physically, mentally and spiritually engaging yoga practices, she loves to ride her horse Tilly, fish, hike, camp, kayak volunteer at the World Bird Sanctuary, or do just about anything outdoors. Her favorite phrase is, "As in Yoga, so in Life." and encourages her students to use the lessons they learn about themselves on the 4 corners of their mats and apply them to their daily lives. Anu French

Anu is passionate about creating and sharing resources through her website www.anufrench.com  including her children’s book, ‘I Am You, You Are Me’, her music CD on meditative kirtan, ‘Wake Up My Divinity’, her healing artwork, the ‘I Am’ series and her ‘I Am Vida’ line of accessories to support Literacy for Life. She is committed to partnering with those she meets to empower them to begin their own journey of healing and wellness.

JennTara Ward

JennTara’s classes are fun and challenging in a safe and systematic way. Her gentle spirit supports and nurtures students of all levels and helps them feel a sense of self-acceptance. She is attentive and her clear & creative instructions help students progress in their practice and get into poses that may normally be difficult to them. She has a deep understanding of the body and alignment and students enjoy the pace and flow of her classes. Her theme based classes offer time to unplug from the day, play, and deeply relax. JennTara has been teaching yoga since 2003 and has been a licensed massage therapist since 1998. Her formal yoga studies are in the tradition of Anusara Yoga and she has studied many hours with John Friend and other senior teachers of the Anusara Tradition. She enjoys spending time with her husband and her son.

Julie Johnson

Julie Johnson, M. Ed, ATS, RYT, came to yoga in 1998 at the age of 15 as she began her 15 year journey overcoming the long term mindbody impact of toxic stress. Yoga, psychotherapy and the research of Brene Brown and Kristen Neff inspired Julie to build a life that supports creativity, wellness, integrity, radical honesty, acceptance and authenticity. Her roots are in trauma sensitive yoga, hatha yoga, dance, polyvagal theory, neuroscience, somatics and the juicy mystery of Life itself. Creative, mindful movement and honest self-exploration have always been sources of tremendous healing for Julie. Her calling has been to share this with others in new and innovative ways in public schools and yoga studios. Julie earned her B.F. A. in Photography and Art History from the University of Kansas and has a Master’s degree in Special Education from Missouri State University In 2015, she founded the Yoga for Learning Program with Natasha Baebler at Special School District. This school based program uses yoga as a tool for students with social emotional challenges to learn the restorative power of healthy relationship dynamics with adult mentors and peers. Julie is one of the creators of Integrate Trauma Informed Network with Victoria Emanuela. This is a community network of professionals and trauma survivors dedicated to community resilience, self-compassion and nervous system informed healing for all people. Julie lives in Maplewood, MO with her partner Luke and her two free spirited kids, Shyla and Asher.

Karla and David Wilson

Karla is a Regenerative Consultant. Throughout her 40 year career she has been in passionate partnership with Mama Gaia to restore wholeness to both people and the planet. Karla has led environmental leadership programs, St. Louis Earth Day, and regional watershed restoration efforts. She is an experienced Re-evaluation Counseling and Emotional Freedom Technique practitioner, as well as a long time student of both Native American Spirituality and the Divine Feminine. Karla is currently completing a certification course to facilitate 13 session Sophia Code Circle Courses. Karla & David Wilson consciously model an evolved balance of the feminine and masculine both within themselves and within their relationship. They communicate regularly with Ascended Masters and Archangels, and would like to assist you in expanding your capacity to do the same.

Olga

I define myself as "a global citizen with a local focus". My life goal is to create health and happiness in the global world through a ripple effect of self-love, compassion towards others and human connection. My healing modalities include Journaling practices, Reiki and Sound Massage. My healing methods are rooted in nature and ancestral traditions, and are both simple and nurturing. I believe that true power lies within each one of us and by loving ourselves unconditionally we are not only healing ourselves within but also healing the world around us. I am a certified Intelligent Leadership coach and a Reiki Master. I was born and raised in Ukraine in a family of scientists, teachers and healers. After graduating with Ms. Sc. degree in Theoretical And Mathematical Physics, I left Soviet Union and moved to Israel with my husband. In 1997 I relocated to St. Louis and raised my family in the USA. For over 20 years I held various IT (Information Technology) leadership positions in Corporate America. To overcome a serious illness in 2007, I leaned into my spiritual side and started developing my own healing practices and methods. I am an imperfectly perfect human - a wife of 30+ years, a mother of 2 beautiful grown kids, a supporter of 2 aging parents and a caretaker of 2 golden-age animals. I love to read, bike, ski, hike, to travel around the world, to create new dishes and to cook my grandma’s recipes, to practice yoga, to make art, to spend time in nature and to learn new skills.

Bhanu Ramesh

A workout for one’s body, mind and prana(energy)always resonated with me. I began yoga at one of the oldest yoga institutes in Mumbai, India in the late eighties. I kept practicing yoga sporadically but got serious after shin splints while training for a relay marathon and found yoga helped me heal. Inspired to deepen my own practice and gain more knowledge, I completed my 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training at Joy of Yoga and Wildwood Yoga in October 2020. I love teaching and sharing the power to move energy through the body and mind consciously through asana, pranayama and meditation. In my spare time, I enjoy playing with my bunny, cooking, gardening holistically and traveling.

Charity Ragain

I found Joy of Yoga years ago during a very low point in my life. I was going through a divorce and what I now know to be a Spiritual Awakening. It was through these uprooting and difficult times that my true calling was revealed to me. I am now on that divine path and ready to support you on yours. Welcome! My name is Charity. I am a Spiritual Life Coach for women who are ready for a major breakthrough and a complete transformation of their life. These women have a deep, inner knowing that something needs to shift i.e., career, relationships, finances, health, etc. and they are ready to commit to themselves - maybe for the first time ever - they just don’t know where or how to start. In our sessions together I incorporate a number of modalities such as somatic therapy, inner child healing, visualizations/meditations, trauma-informed approach, as well as alternative healing methods such as Reiki and sound therapy. It is my experience that through a holistic approach: recognizing the mind, body, spirit connection, that life-changing healing can occur. What does this mean for you? More peace, joy, freedom, abundance. Ultimately it’s you finally living Your Authentic Soul Aligned Life! In addition to coaching I offer private Reiki sessions as well as private and group Sound Healing sessions. I am trained as a Usui Master/ Teacher and Karuna Reiki Practitioner. Rachel

I first experienced yoga in my teenage years and have always felt a deep connection to nature and wildlife. In 2011 I found myself seeking alternative ways to heal my body and mind after sustaining several pelvic fractures in a car accident. I was also in the midst of learning to cope with PTSD after recovering from toxic relationships and addiction. Feeling lost, I began to turn back to my daily practice. Here, I began to discover the profound healing that yoga was bringing into my life through pranayama, meditation, and mindful movement. As the layers of toxic conditioning shed and my practice deepened, I discovered my true inner self that was ready to be reborn to this world. Realizing I hold intuitive and empathic gifts, I left my corporate job and began my journey of becoming a teacher and healer. I am eager to share all that I have learned over the years so others may also develop skills to bridge the gap between the mind, body, and spirit in a trauma informed and inclusive way. I am a Reiki II practitioner and a 200hr Yoga Alliance RYT. I have trained with Joy Page (Joy of Yoga,STL) and Jill Dunlap (Wildwood Yoga & Wellness). I am passionate about incorporating neuroscience, philosophy, and ancestral wisdom into my classes.

Jenine Harris

I completed my Yoga Teacher Training in 2019 at Joy of Yoga and am a registered yoga teacher (RYT200) with Yoga Alliance. My goals in teaching and practicing yoga are to cultivate calm, flexibility, and strength and to provide tools that can be used off the mat to cope with stress in daily life and avoid injury in other activities. My classes often incorporate pranayama and guided meditation in addition to traditional yoga movement. In addition to yoga, I teach statistics to graduate students in public health and social work and play more tennis than I should.

Rachel Roberts

Rachel began her yoga practice in 2010 in an effort to focus on her health. She fell in love straight away and slowly built up her practice exploring different types of yoga. Rachel is a glamorous nomad that has spent the past few years, traveling, learning and having adventures. Traveling through Asia and the pacific yoga was always a constant. She received her yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, India from the Vinyasa Yoga School in 2015. She spent time at yoga retreats in Thailand and Nepal, took many styles of classes in South Korea, Vietnam and New Zealand. After spending so much time exploring Rachel is thrilled to be given the opportunity to share all of the benefits yoga has brought to her life with others.

Rebecca Cabral

I started my yoga journey in 2011 at my local community college. I was grieving the recent unexpected loss of my brother and was searching for a healthy outlet. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the way yoga gave me the ability to quiet my anxious mind and create the space I needed to begin healing. Over the years I have found myself turning to yoga whenever I am going through a difficult time. In 2020 I immersed myself in my yoga practice and completed a 200 hour Teacher Training with Joy Page and Jill Dunlap. My goal as a yoga teacher is to create a space for students to get out of their heads and into their bodies, enabling them to develop a deeper connection with oneself. Through pranayama techniques, mindfulness and guided movement I hope to provide you with tools that can be used on and off your mat to create more balance, happiness, and healing.

Hannah Bryant

I first found yoga during college, when I attended a class at my local community center, and it was love at first vinyasa. A regular practice has been a comforting part of my life ever since. For me, yoga has provided a sense of grounding and stability, even during the most chaotic times. After practicing yoga for nearly two decades, I completed my 200HR-RYT teacher training through Joy of Yoga and Wildwood Yoga in St. Louis in October of 2020. I believe that yoga is for everyone, and I am passionate about helping others unlock the power of yoga as a mental wellness practice in their own lives. I have worked in the field of education for over 20 years, with students of all ages, and am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Leadership in Teaching and Learning. My research interests include exploring the benefits of mindfulness and meditation within a school setting. I also love reading, traveling, cooking vegetarian meals, and finding new ways to stay fit. I am delighted for the opportunity to work with students at every stage of their yoga journey!

Abigail

‘Breathe into your big toe’ – yes, as crazy as it might sound, realizing I could do this was the mind-body connection that brought a sense of stillness and knowing to my fast-paced mind. With a dedication to personal overall wellness and working out, I was drawn to yoga for what I thought was additional physical exercise. However, through my practice I've found an expanded sense of what wellness means from the mind-body awareness and mindfulness yoga provided. I realized that these tools can be applied both on and off the mat. Now with a wish for all to find their yoga, I realize everyone has to channel their inner teacher to find out what connects them to who they are at the given time in their life. I understand your practice will change as you continue to build fluidity during the flow of life in class and beyond. I am honored to meet all those along their way and hope to use my experience to help provide a bit of guidance to others embarking on finding their ‘yoga’.

Brooke Brasfield

Brooke has been working as a mental health therapist in a mental health and substance abuse treatment facility for the past 6 years. She has facilitated both educational and process groups on anxiety, cognitive behavioral therapy, coping skills, stress management, mindfulness/meditation education, and much more. She has decided to branch out into life coaching to be able to guide & heal more people around the world. Through her transition, she has been called to give more to the community by sharing her knowledge and experience on anxiety-reducing techniques to help others live a life of peace, empowerment and light. Brooke is open to discussing her personal struggles with anxiety and her specific ways to calm the "anxiety monster" that lives inside.

Tim

"Helming a sailing vessel is very much a meditative practice. In sailing we tune our physical and mental awareness to the flow of the sea, to the whimsy of the wind, to the sensations within the body arising from contact with the sailing vessel herself. We reach a unity point—sea, wind, mind, body, vessel—and then the state of flow arises. We develop the elegant ability to be with what is, to respond in alignment with our essence nature. And when we are in this state of flow, of unity, we viscerally experience subtle signs from nature, gracefully adjusting our course, to remain in flow, to be with what is. For me, this is yoga." Minakshi Deepak

Minakshi is from India, the land of yoga. She has been practicing yoga since 2001 and also has been sharing the benefits of yoga with her family and friends. She is passionate about teaching yoga and believes in bringing positive changes to the lives of her students through the practice. Minakshi's students receive great focus on correct alignment and breath to help achieve the 3 levels of purification: mind, body, nervous system. Using yoga as holistic healing, Minakshi creates a divine space for her students filled with love and compassion. She believes that through our yoga practices, we develop a greater awareness of our physical, emotional and psychological states helping us to find more ease in our relationships and everyday living. Students will immediately feel the difference in their day to day life. Minakshi received her Diploma in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, Pranayama and Yoga Nidra from Kapila Maharshi Yoga Institute of Hyderabad, India, in the year 2014. During her internship, she explored the therapeutic effects of yoga in combination with Ayurveda for holistic and natural treatment. She has experience in teaching all age groups, from beginners to advanced. She is also available for private sessions for Yoga, breathing techniques(Pranamaya) and meditation at Joy of yoga.

Caroline

I have been positively influenced by yoga since birth. However, in 2017 I delved deeper into the realm of Hatha yoga through practicing regularly at a local studio to help me remain sane throughout my Social Work graduate program. After spending so much time on the mat, I noticed the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual benefits seeping into many aspects of her life—especially off the mat. Because of this, I chose to complete a 200-hr teacher training program through Joy of Yoga and graduated in October 2020. Through compassion, authenticity and integrity, I aim to provide a safe space while helping students create a more positive relationship with their own bodies and listen to their inner voice. I realize that each student’s journey is ever-evolving; however, what remains constant is the inner healing and growth that takes place along the way. I’m now a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance.
